Gala Report Archive

Due to the strong participation in this year’s Ickle People Meet the following day, our team at this second Mercian League gala had quite a few gaps. Nevertheless everyone swam very well. Again we fielded many inexperienced swimmers, all of whom put in one hundred per cent effort.
There were some great swims – [...]

From a Coach’s point of view it was very, very pleasing to see the swimmers implement the techniques they have been learning – and we have been shouting about (!) – in training.
I could mention specific improvements in nearly every swimmer but to name three that really stand out: James Mander’s front crawl, Molly King’s [...]

This is a great Meet for Junior Squad members (13 and under): it is friendly and fun and offers a really good range of events on one day. Twenty-six Fox Hollies swimmers participated this year with some doing all ten races. Behaviour and morale were great and there were some really excellent swims.

As hosting Club for last weekend’s gala we had two challenges this time: firstly to hold our position in the League and secondly to gather all our volunteers and make the evening run smoothly. I am delighted to say that we achieved both.

Report by new U14 swimmer, Rachel Mander
On the 24th April, a team of swimmers went to the Snowdome, Tamworth, to compete in the Mercian league. It was hosted by Tamworth Swimming Club who made us all feel welcome. This was my first time actually swimming for Fox Hollies, which meant I was quite nervous. [...]

This was our first outing in Diddy League Division Two after having fought hard for promotion last year and we faced stiff competition. We were also missing a couple of important swimmers – one of whom was enjoying an unexpectedly long holiday in Spain due to recent volcanic activity!
Nevertheless the Team performed extremely well [...]

Fox Hollies had a small but determined group of swimmers competing at these two extremely competitive meets. Birmingham, in particular, is attended by swimmers from all over the country – with many national level times being set over the weekend. This year both Opens were combined Level 2 and Level 3 meets – [...]

This was the final gala in the League for swimmers aged 11 to open. Saturday’s team included many first time competitors and some who haven’t competed for a long time, these included: Josh Tullett, Mark Lees, Alex Stewart and Adam Nelson. All swam extremely well.
Competition in Division 1 is very tough but [...]

Fox Hollies had good representation at this year’s Championships, with girls and boys swimming all distances, all strokes and all age groups.
For the first time for many years we had enough high quality 9 and 10 year olds to field girls’ and boys’ relay teams in both the medley relay and the freestyle relay. [...]

Tonight was a great first outing for many swimmers new to our Junior Team. Fox Hollies came seventh of eight high quality teams from top clubs. But ours was a team of novices, with even our more experienced swimmers trying new strokes and distances in preparation for Diddy League Squad selection.
Our newcomers deserve [...]
